Balance Meditation Spell

Balance is like mindfulness. It is something that you need to revisit again and again. This ritual is best performed when the moon is in Libra. I have a small guide here if you need help finding what sign the moon is in. Or work with the whole moon cycle to attract and release.

My favorite stones are stacked in this photo. They are simple beach stones from Cape Cod. I found them on a sunrise walk with my husband.

I want to be very clear that darkness is not bad and lightness is not good. They are eternal forces that need each other. Without one there isn't the other. Without work, there is no rest. Without love, there is no hate. We won't find balance until we acknowledge that we are perfectly flawed.

Things you will need:

  • Two stones of somewhat equal size/weight, one dark, and one light - Obsidian, hematite, tourmaline, shungite, moonstone or jasper would be good for one. Clear quartz, howlite, sunstone, carnelian, rose quartz. Or stones from a special beach, river or place. Make a ritual of seeking out these two stones. Trust your instincts on this step!

  • A candle dedicated to this intent - you should work with the same candle over a week or two. Start with a new one.

  • A journal - work with a book for all these spells and exercises so that you have a record of where you came from and how you changed.

Light your candle and speak your desires to it. Sit and connect with its flame as you talk about which areas you are looking for balance. Too much work? Focusing on others too much? Moving too quickly or not enough? Whatever it is you are struggling with, let it out. Take a few minutes for this step.

Take your journal and open up to two blank pages. On one page write a list of things that are overwhelming or you are overindulging in. On the other page write things that you feel are lacking.

Now go down the list and try to find the good in the bad, and the bad in the good. Recognize that all these things have their place in your life at some point. Be gentle with yourself. This step is not to about berating yourself for bad habits or making you a productivity machine. This is about finding your places of strength. Remember that you can't learn lessons without making mistakes.

Hold one of the stones in each hand then hold your hands over your two lists. Imagine that each stone represents each page. Capture the energy of each page in the stones.

Close your eyes and meditate with the stones in each hand. Just as we have the cycles of seasons, moons, and planets, we have cycles of our lives and days. By coming back to the center we can reflect on how our paths strayed from our center-line. And with those reflections—we can heal and grow.

Feel the weight of the stones in your hands. Remember the lists stored within them. Feel the stones' emotional weight as well as their physical weight. Balance the stones in your hands and feel your lists balancing as well.

Keep the stones in your pockets as reminders of balance. You have control over your lists as you have control over the stones. When you are feeling off-balance, slide your hands into your pockets and reconnect with your power.

Balance in movement

Finding balance in your body is a grounding practice. It puts us in touch with our physical forms. We get carried away with the mental and spiritual selves that we lose connection with our physical manifestation. I recommend doing yoga and playing with your balance. If you are new to Yoga, I recommend Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube. She has wonderful 30-day programs designed for all bodies and skill levels.

One exercise is to stand tall on both feet and slowly lift one foot. Take your time with this and play around with the moment your foot lifts off the ground. Find that edge where you are grounded in both feet, to when you are balanced on one foot.

Try this same slow awareness with other yoga poses.

When you are still struggling with finding balance, go back to your foundation. Reference Maslov’s Hierarchy of Needs to find where you need to reconnect.

Start at the bottom of the pyramid. How is your relationship with your basic needs? How about your safety? Your relationships?

Find things that you can be grateful for. You can build strength with gratitude to tackle the things you are lacking.
