Finding What Sign the Moon is In

A few of my spells and rituals suggest working with the moon in a particular sign. I thought it might be helpful to have a reference for some of the tools I use. The moon moves into a different sign about every two and a half days. Once you get in the rhythm of it, it can be easy to plan out a month or so in advance when the best timings are.

There are tons of tools to figure out what sign the moon or a planet is in. Your favorite astrology app or website might already have the tools, you just need to look for them. Here are a few methods I like.

Planet Watcher - Website

Planet Watcher can be overwhelming to look at but just look for the silver moon symbol to see what sign the moon is in. In this picture the moon is in Pisces.

This website is the best way to see what's going on right now. If you're not familiar with reading a chart, don't get overwhelmed by all the symbols. We are just looking for the moon right now so find the silver moon symbol and see what sign it is in right now. You can use the calendar at the right or the arrows at the top to move through time.

Lunarium - Website

This used to be my favorite way to plan moon magic. Unfortunately, they are redoing the site and it's still a work in progress. I'm listing it here hoping that it comes back up. It currently has all the information but you will need to manually adjust the time zones. You can see the astrology symbols on the main calendar and at least get a general idea of what sign the moon is in.

AstroSeek Moon Phase Calendar - Website

This is a nice calendar overview. I found it when searching for an alternative to Lunariun. Make sure to set your time zone at the top otherwise it displays data for UTC. This calendar displays the moon phases as well making it easy to combine the phase and the sign of the moon. Click on a day to expand the information.

TimeNomad iPhone app - Website

I couldn't live without this app. A year or two ago when I installed it I was overwhelmed by the information, its now what I use 90% of the time to check my chart, transits, and daily astro-weather. It's a free app with some add-ons you can buy for it. Go to the Dashboard to see the moon cycle, its current sign, and the rise and set.
